Half A Year Old Birthday

Mia's Cake

We had a little party for Baby Mia to celebrate her 6th Month Birthday. She deserved a little taste of her cake for being such an exceptional daughter and reaching many of her development goals.

Half A Year Old

Dear Sweet Mia,

Happy birthday my love. You have reached the big SIX. Six months old that is. Time has flown by so fast. You have achieved so much in your development over the past six months. Of course all mummy's out there say their baby is so smart and like the latter I too think you are definitely a smart egg. Actually according to Babycentre's milestone development chart, you are an advanced little baby. You already started crawling before you were six months old. Mummy and Daddy are so proud of you.

So far my love, your major accomplishments are feeding yourself by holding your own bottle, crawling in a froggie kind of way, screaming out loud or more like shrieking out loud, you have responded to the word "No" and last but not least, you know your name, Mia.

Besides the major accomplishments above, you have also learnt to roll over and "partially" roll back onto your tummy with a little help from mummy or daddy. You have become very fond of your mirror image but you just can't seem to figure out that it's actually your own reflection. It's adorable seeing you talking to your reflection and also flipping the mirror to see if there's anyone behind it. I'm sure you'll work it out soon, my love. I always love playing with you during our mummy-daughter time because I normally get you to laugh out loud, more often than before. A couple of nights ago, because you wouldn't shut your little eyes to sleep, I sat you in your bouncing chair and naturally, you pulled all your toys down from the bar. I had to pick them up and stick them back up. And you did it again. I think we must of did it over and over again about ten times. It was getting late so I picked you up and tried to rock you to sleep but I had no luck. I gently patted your bum and in a stern voice I said "Mia, Sleep". You pulled a face and started to cry. I didn't mean to make you cry but that incident proved to mummy that you definitely know when you are in trouble. Nevertheless, I know you still love me, right?

Although mummy works five days a week, I make it a must to spend as much time as I can with you after I get home from work. Even when I'm eating, I would sit you beside me in your high chair while I eat. Lately though, it seems to want to have a taste of whatever I'm eating as you always smack your lips together or lick your lips with your tongue whenever I put food in my mouth. I guess that's one sign that you have to be weaned. Mummy has also realized for the past week, you have been waking up in the middle of the night and feeding like you haven't been fed all day. Sign number two, hunger in the middle of the night.

Yesterday, my love marked a milestone for you. It was Day 1 of weaning you. Mummy made porridge for you for breakfast and you enjoyed it. It did change your sleeping pattern again but still you woke up in the middle of the night, hungry. So mummy is going to give you two feedings starting next week. Once in the morning and once around 6pm. Mummy hopes that will do the trick so you can sleep right through till morning. Mummy is currently trying to teach you sign language so when you are a little bigger and you still haven't found your words yet, you will be able to communicate with mummy. So far mummy is teaching you the sign for 'milk' which is basically just opening and closing of your hand, like you are squeezing something. Funnily enough, since I taught you that sign, everytime you breastfeed, you tend to do that sign on mummy's breast and if you are bottle feeding, you do it to your bottle. Coincidence? I don't think so. I think you know what the sign means. Such a baby-genius! Mummy's next goal is to teach you how to wave.

Mummy has to go now and prepare for your "Half year birthday" party tonight. Love you loads my little pumpkin!!

Smarty Pants

"Daddy's Little Cupcake"

Dear Mia,

At five and a half months, you can now officially crawl. Mummy & Daddy are so proud of you. Now, we would scattered your toys on the mattress and you would froggie crawl towards them. It is so cute to see you so determined.

Now, you also know your "Round & Round the Garden" song. The moment mummy starts singing it, your body would come to a stand-still and you eyes would light up. Before I say the "Tickle tickle there!" part, you would start smiling coz I think you know the tickling comes next. I think Grandma has to take credit for that for singing that song to you everyday for the past 3 months.

This lunchtime, mummy & daddy have been trying to teach you the word "NO". We were all sprawled on the bed and daddy lent you his phone to play with. But everytime you could pick it up, you would try and put it in your mouth. And everytime you did that, we would both say no. It kinda makes you jump when we say it, continuosly. Eventually, after a couple of times you understood and stopped putting the phone in your mouth. Daddy then asked you to pick up the phone and give it to him. Incredibly, that's exactly what you did. You are such a smart little girl.

I wonder what new thing you will surprise us with in the days to come. We love you little one!

Love Mummy

Mother's Day Weekend

Last weekend, we spent just relaxing, enjoying the day as it came. Now Mia can sit in her bath tub without me holding her and she enjoys playing with her rubber duckie during bath time. At lunch time we accompanied Grandma to the new port in Serasa to send off Uncle Azim and Auntie Suesue who were spending the weekend in Labuan. Then we went home. Mia spent the afternoon spending quality time with her daddy before he went off to his football match. As we were about to drop by to watch him play and bring his bottle of 100 plus, Mia fell asleep in the car, holding the plastic bag with her daddy's drink. Because Mia fell asleep, I decided to just make my way to Mia's grandparents house for steamboat. It was sort of a "Eve of Mother's Day" event and Mia got to spend a little time with her cousins, Alisha & Aqyra.

On Sunday, it was Mother's Day and Mia gave me the best mother's day gift ever. She let me sleep-in till Eleven in the morning. It was a lazy Sunday. Around 4-ish we made our way to Alai Zubaidah's place for Hi-tea with the KWC. Aaa...our weekly dose of Alai Z and Baby Zane which I always look forward to. I definitely had a blast with this gorgeous group of ladies and I'm sure Mia enjoyed herself too with all the ladies baby sitting her, especially Nadiah. She was so good with Mia. When we arrived home, mummy dropped by with her gift for baby Mia. A play Pen, let me rephrase that, a huge play pen. We set it up into an hexagon shape, put down a duvet and sprawl Baby Mia's toys all over. I sat her in there and she took to it almost immediately. Its relieving knowing she's safe and won't be crawling everywhere (once she can really crawl, that is). I love my mummy & Bapa for being so considerate and buying it for us. At the moment, we are keeping it in our room but in a couple of weeks time, when she can really crawl, its going in the TV room.

Mia now has a habit. She tugs on her right ear and plays with it when she is sleepy and when she's having her evening feed. It's sooo cute. Also, when she feeds, not only does she have the teat in her mouth, but she likes to put her thumb in her mouth too. Go figure~

Mia's May Days

Mia with her Aby

Last Saturday, Mia got her weekly dose of her Aby and Baby Zane. Of course Mia's Aby is looking more gorgeous every week and Baby Zane is getting chubbier every week. I bet Mia can't wait till he gets a bit bigger so she can play with him.

On Sunday, the day before Mia's Nini Bapa's Birthday which is actually on the fourth of May , we had a little family get together to celebrate his birthday at Villa Mauri. Mia was a good little girl and did not cry although we were out past her bed time. But the moment we got into the car to go home, she fell asleep.

First Fever

My Sick Little Feverish Pumpkin

On Tuesday Mia was feeling quiet warmish. I had a feeling she would be coming down with the fever and that night I was right. She was very hot by the time it was evening and acting very irritated and frustrated. Everytime I was able to get her to sleep, I'd put her down in her cot then ten minutes later she would wake up crying. For two nights she would only sleep on me and for those two nights, by early morning I would end up in her room, asleep, holding her in the feeding chair. I suspected she was teething since she was drooling way too much and she refused to take any milk from the bottle. All I could do was give her some Calpol, which helped reduce her temperature and keep a cold flanel on her forehead to try to keep her temperature down. On wednesday I bought the Cool Fever packs and am very happy with the result. They are much easier than using the wet towel plus they actually stick on Mia's forehead.

Today, Alhamdullillah she's much better. Last night, she did wake up and whimpered in pain but only that once around midnight. She then slept right through till about 5am and was restless. She seemed bored and couldn't sleep. Since I just had no energy to entertain her. I put on her Tigger and Pooh DVD and propped her up on a couple of pillows beside me. I think she fell asleep soon after because when I woke up later on, she was fast asleep.

I haven't check her gums yet to see if her tooth has grown but babycenter said it could be a couple more days yet. It aches to her in pain. I nearly cried when she was crying in pain but then again I'm just glad she's feeling better.
