18 Months Old ~ Mia's Half Birthday!

Mia's new Look

Dear Darling daughter of mine,

Happy half-birthday my sweetie! You are now 18 months old, another milestone. Alhamdullillah.
I am now happy to announce that at 18 months you are now finally calling me "Mammie". It took us a while to drill the word into you but it always came out a "memeh" and it seemed like you refused to use it. But after practicing over and over again, you finally got the hang of the word and it comes out correctly, "Mammie". Previously when you and me are in the car, I would talk with you and I would often tell you to say "Mummy" but you always reply "Daddy"....and we end up just exchanging those two words like we are in an argument...its hilarious!
"Gen" is often used in your vocabulary now. Its your version of again. Anything I do that cracks you up is followed by "Gen"...haha. Another word you normally use now is "Peezzz", which is your version of please. Sometimes when you want something and you forget to say it, Daddy will always say, "What is the magic word?" and then you'll remember to say "Peezzz". Funnily enough, lately when I'm around, all you want to have is mummy's fresh breastmilk. You just tug on my shirt and say "Nenen...peezzz..". As much as it can be difficult to breastfeed a toddler and her teeth, how could one resist when you my darling are oh-so-cute when u say 'please'. Mummy & Daddy are trying our best to bring you up with good morals, manners and politeness. The other day I was watching TV and munching on my chipsters. You were eyeing me so I asked if you wanted some. Of course you nodded. I gave you some and you said, "Tan Chu Memeh."....aww, that was just too cute~
Earlier this month, we did what we normally do in the late afternoons, prop ourselves in front of the tv and of course I had to put on your favourite cartoon, Toy Story. I am beginning to think you watch that particular dvd way too many times my love as you have memorized some of the scenes and what the characters say and do..haha.
One thursday night a couple of weeks back, you my dear had caught the flu and was feverish. Being feverish means mummy does not get to have a good nights sleep. You kept on waking up, numerous times crying. We had a feeling it could be because you had a blocked nose or because you just felt terrible. So on that night, after your little cry, you sat up and started talking gibberish. Then you said, "Kaka house". For a minute, we thought you were dreaming but you weren't. For some reason, you actually knew it was friday and you would be off to your kaka's house in the morning. On that friday, you came home with a new haircut. Your auntie Inah cut your fringe!

The other sunday you had the pleasure of the company of your Grandma & Granpa. They agreed to look after you while mummy did a car boot sale with auntie Sue. Grandma told me you were a good girl and spent half the morning at the tuition school. You read some books and was interested in the Dinosaur one the most. You picked up the figurine of the dinosaur as well as the book and showed Grandma then said "Same"! You are so smart! We are still trying to name parts of the body....I think it has increased now. You now know and recognize as well as pronounce eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, feet, hands, tummy and fingers!

"Find Mia"

Besides being smart, I also think you have picked up your daddy's character of being a 'funny' comedian. While we were in the car the other night, I decided to break the silence and sing barney's "Mr.sun" song. You then said "No sun, moon!" hahaha...so then I asked you where is the moon? you replied "up!" Excellent. We now have another word game for the car. Things that are up such as, bird, moon, sun, star and aeroplane...I love being your teacher my love!

17 Months old

Mia at 17 Months

Dear little Miss Mia,

Alhamdullillah, another month has passed and you are now 17 months old. I think we will celebrate your half birthday next month with a nice yummy chocolate fudge cake and oreo cupcakes from Auntie Adrina.

All ready to attend Zane's first birthday

You made me a proud mummy the other day at Zane's birthday gathering. As we were about to have a doa selamat, you held up your hands to pray. You did the same when we were shopping in supasave and the Azan for the Isyak prayer came on on the intercom. I told you to be quiet and listen because its "baca bismillah" time. Automatically you put up your hands and did your "amin". Absolutely proud of you my sweets!

Mia pushing her baby in her stroller

Some new words I have heard you say are "Jus" when you want to drink juice instead of water, "eh-pane" when you see an aeroplane and "house" when we pass big building you would say "nice house". Alhamdullillah you now also know how to tell us if you have pooped! At the moment mummy is trying to teach you the difference of big and small. Recently you really did surprise me when you pointed to the diamond studs on my 'jubah' and said "Ai-mand". I don't remember ever teaching you much about diamonds but here you are knowing what it is. You have always liked shiny objects that have diamonds which is probably why you know how to associate the word to the object. Excellent! You have three character dolls in your teddy bear collection; Barney, Mickey mouse and Elmo. You also have the DVD's starring these three characters. So whichever dvd we put on, you would take the associated character doll. Recently, we were watching Elmo and the Bookaneers and immediately you picked up your Elmo doll and said "elmo"!!!!

I can assure you now that you have a great imagination and you definitely know how to entertain yourself even if there is no one to play with you, though you are a little scaredy cat and constantly needs someone there in the room with you. When daddy, you and myself are in the room, you would play a game you have invented. I call it your " Ready go race" game. You would stand in one spot then say "One..two...Go!" and run to another spot in the room. You created your own little race! hahaha....daddy would say, "Eh, siuk sendiri!"

There are so many moments that I will cherish and it seems like the older you get, the more memories there are. Some bitter ones but mostly sweet and funny ones. Like recently, we were on our way to Jerudong and while waiting at the traffic lights we were adjacent to a toy store. While sitting in the car seat, you popped your head up and saw the banner of mickey mouse and said "Oooo Toys, toys, toys". The lights changed to green, I accelerated and we started to pass the store and move further away from it. Immediately you said "Owh..bye bye toys, bye bye toys." It sounded so sad but it was so cute. The same thing happened when we were going out to buy you some new sport shoes. I told you, "We are going jalan to buy you new shoes, okay". The reply I got from you was, "Buy toys?" Hahahaha.

Last night your Grandma & Grandpa babysat you while mummy & daddy went to a BBQ. Your Grandma told me Grandpa is amazed with you as he brought you to the electrical shop last night and you came across a football match being played on the TV screens. Grandma said that you stopped and watched the men playing football on the screen then you started kicking your leg up. Instantly they realized you were 'playing football'. Then the TV focused on the football post and you said "Goal".

Nowadays we spend many hours on the weekend curled up together on our "mini-bed" watching TV. No matter how many times you've watched it, your eyes will always stick like glue to the TV when I put on Toy Story. You have watched it so many times that you can remember a certain scene where the alien figurines say "Ouuuuuu" and you follow....its too cute! haha. Yet sometimes I will put on one of my movies and it would absolutely bore you. Recently, while I was watching a movie, you came up to me and was literally face to face, looked into my eyes, then kissed me on my lips. Thats when I realized that you my love are a very loving person, a trait you have definetely gotten from me...as I often do the same to your daddy! haha...

Don't grow up too fast my sweetiepie!

16 months old

Mia @ 16 months
Dearest Mia,

My oh my Princess Mia, you are now 16 months old and you are learning so many things now that it is hard to keep up with the new things you know, do and say. Nevertheless, as your mummy, I have recorded those little things that make me smile and proud.

Firstly, your vocabulary has rocketed and you know so many words now, from animals to the parts of your body. A couple of weeks ago, we were going through your animal book and there was a picture of an elephant. I was impressed when you suddenly bursted out "Ali-phan" and made the elephant sound! Recently, I finally found the source from where you learnt the sound. The PDA toy Grandma gave you for your birthday! Excellent! Its no wonder you know how to say "Apple" properly now.

As for your movement skills, you have learnt to walk backwards. You often do it to show off and entertain mummy. Two days before mummy's birthday, we were playing with your bubble bottle and blowing bubbles, and guess what, you blew your first bubble! This will prove to be a good thing as you will learn to blow bubbles in the water at your swim class, and not drink the pool water. You have also learnt to run. You love to run! And when you are in your room, you like to play pretend with your tea-set. So now, when ever you see a plastic toy cup, you will say "Tea". Our latest game is poiting-to-parts-of body! and you have ace-ed the game totally. You can point to your hands, feet, hair, tummy, eyes, nose and mouth! Excellent!

Since you spend every friday at your auntie chenah's, you have adopted the two most often used words to identify your older cousins. You can now say "Kaka" and "abam" (abang). You know how to say "abis" now as well as "Num" for minum(drink), "Phome" (phone) "Tun" (sun) and Moon. Its cute when you start going "Bye bye Moon" when we go out at night! Its too cute! You can finally say "Mummy" but refuse to use the word. You say "Oh oh" when something has happened, like you spilled something or dropped something. You say "Ouwww" when something hurts and ocassionally you will say "akit" meaning sakit. Stringing words together is your latest achievement. You know how to say "Daddy Work" and "Daddy Ball"...haha
I love you baby girl!
xoxo

Mia's First Swim lesson

My Little Swim Star

Dear Mia,

We started your first swim lesson two weeks ago and I am proud to say you are a natural. You love the water and just want to stay inside the pool. During the first week, Auntie Jacky focused on the "Ready, Go" technique, where we would prep you with the words "Ready, Go" before sprinkling you with water. You learnt fast because by the second week, you knew what to expect after saying ready, go. At home in the bath tub, I would say "ready-go" and you would automatically splash yourself with water. My little water-baby! At your first swim lesson, you even knew to climb the edge of the pull, sit down and try to jump in. I have no idea where you learnt to do that.

First time in an actual swimming pool

..and she loved it so much she nearly drank all the water...

Happy Little Pumpkin

During your second lesson last week, we met up at JPMC pool instead. At this lesson, we focused on taking you under water, though you did do it once at your first lesson. This time we have a picture to prove it. I think I shall now give u a new nick name..."My little Dolphin".

15 Months Old

Dear Little Miss Mia,

You are now 15 months old and such a chatterbox! Now you can recognize and say aloud the sounds of 8 different types of animals; cat (meaw), bird (shhu shu), dog(Wauwau), horse (Raspberry), chicken (Bak bak bak in the most sweetest low voice), lion (Rrrrr), monkey(Aaa aa aa) and cow (moooo). A couple of weeks back, I was astounded with the fact that you could reply to daddy the sound of a lion and showed us the picture of a lion. You are too smart my love. No one year old that I know can point to a picture of a butterfly and say "Butfly", except you sweetie.
Last month, mummy & daddy had a little weedkend getaway without you while you stayed at your Grandma's house with your nanny. I'm happy to report that you were a good girl. So, next trip you will be coming along with us. Grandma informed me that while u were in the car with her, you were able to pull out a couple hundred dollars from her handbag, held out your hand to the window and say "Tan Chu". Grandma's conclusion of this is that you were probably mimicking mummy buy petrol..haha..That Sunday mummy & daddy were away, you attended a prize giving ceremony for winners of the Mothercare Sweet dream contest. You were one of the consolation prize winners...Yayy..

Your vocabulary has much increased my love. Now you know your "No's" from your "Yes'es" and your latest is "No More". Sometime at the end of last month, I caught you looking into the mirror, waved your little index finger and said "doon tach". It took me a while to realize you were imitating mummy. From then on, you often use the phrase "Don Taacch", like when I was tickling you yesterday, you pulled away and said "don tach". Another word is "Cream" (Keem) which you constantly ask for when you are dressing for bed after you take your bath. You know to look for your cream in your blue toiletry box. Mummy & Daddy have been trying to increase our goodbye rituals by teaching you "I love you" so mummy & daddy go the whole nine yards trying to get you to 'salam', give a kiss, a hug, say & wave bye, give a flying kiss and say I love you before we leave. You can do all of the above except say I love you. We have to say it first and when you reply, it comes out as "Yu Yu"...Both mummy & daddy think you are just too cute my love. I personally think all those "Gimme 5" gestures everyone does to you has finally kicked in since a couple weeks ago. You held out your hand and said "Gi'Pa-ip". I'm beginning to believe you are a little genius, a tri-lingual one at that. I say tri-lingual because you learnt what "Sakit Ulu"(headache) is. If I were to ask you if you 'sakit ulu', you would put your hand to your head and say "adduuu". Smarty pants! Its nice to see you try and string two words together. Your latest three-strung words are "Bye Bye Moon" when we are out and about at night.

As for your actions, well, I must say, you really do amuse me my love. I absolutely find it too cute for words when I sing Barney's Mr. Sun song. You would automatically start wiggling your bum and shake that little booty of yours. You truly do have your daddy's genes of loving music! The other day, for some odd reason, mummy still cannot explain why you picked up your daddy's Nike watch off his table, trotted to the bathroom and dumped it into the toilet. If only you could explain. Luckily the watch was a water-resistant one. I think you like putting things in holes since we also caught you putting a few of your shapes into daddy's woofer in the TV room. What truly surprises me though is your imagination. I sat watching you pretend to make your own milk bottle the other day. You had an empty coke bottle, your nenen and your biscuit box. You rested your nenen on your biscuit box and started to pretend to pour 'water' from the coke bottle. Then you started to shake your nenen bottle. Exactly how mummy does it. It took me a couple of seconds to realize u were making ur nenen. You're such a fast learner!

Today, you had your first swimming lesson with Auntie Jacky at Polo Club. The moment you saw the pool, you just wanted to dive in. You are such a natural in the water. You also liked to climb up the edge of the pool and jump in. I have no idea how you knew to do that. I can't wait for next weeks lesson.

As for size, you now weigh 9.2kg which is roughly the same weight as 3 mths ago BUT you are growing just fine, though mummy thinks its unbelievable how you can still fit into your 6-9 mths clothes..haha...You're such a compact little princess! Ooo...which reminds me, I think its time to increase your shoe size. Need to start putting away your Size 3 shoes....On to Size 4!

14 Months Old

My dearest Sweetpea,

Today you are 14 months old and you are so belabih~ Your new words so far are Book(Buuuk), Toys (Toish), Abis, Lagi (Agi), Thank you(Tan Chu) and Please(Peeesh). The other day you were playing by yourself and you started counting the toys you had in front of you, "Onn, Teww, Tee"...and I was absolutely amused! Excellent my cherrypie!

Lately you have also been taught body parts (well, face parts actually). You know where your eyes, nose and mouth are. You seem to really love the "Eyes". Even while mummy is sleeping and you wake up early. You'd normally look around, see mummy & daddy still sleeping then start whispering until you think its time to wake us up. Of course I become your victim and you start poking my eyes and say "Eyessshhh".

I've realized you tend to use one word to associate with many other things. For example, the word "fish". You know the word fish is the animal, but you also say fish when you see a swimming pool (maybe because your little pool has pictures of fish) and when you want to swim. Must teach you the word "swimming" next.

Every monday when you are at Grandma's house, you will be very attached to a certain picture of mummy, daddy & grandma during the raya I was pregnant with you. You seem to love that picture and carry it around everywhere and of course kiss your daddy when u miss him.

I am beginning to believe that TV can teach kids alot of things, for instance, in your case, you have learnt to jump (well, what looks like a jump coz your feet still touch the ground and you can only just tip toe which looks like a jump) and say "Yayyyy" from your Strawberry shortcake DVD. Its super cute!!! You can also play ring-around-the-roses which Grandma taught you.

At your auntie chenah's house the other day, you finally showed affection to an older child, actually your cousin to be exact, which is rare. You put your arm around your abang Irshad which was just adorable. Normally, you would kiss and 'sayang' babies like Cousin Hapidz but I've never seen you become chummy with older kids....Such a loving little girl. You make me proud my little princess.
Love Mummy xoxo
